In the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, Danny said he learned how to avoid sitting and eating as much as he wanted. He now stops when he’s comfortable. Danny feels his whole lifestyle has changed. “The food I eat has changed, including more fruits and vegetables. I feel much better doing the exercise. I was occasionally exercising before the program, but I do much more now, and feel better physically.
My life is different now – happier and healthier.”
The program meets in small groups. “Everyone talks about their problems and possible solutions, which helps me.” If a family member or friend of Danny’s was diagnosed with prediabetes, Danny would encourage them to join the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, because “it will help them in the long run.”
Now Danny is enjoying leading his family on the path of good health. Danny’s daughter, Iris, comes to classes with him to translate from Spanish to English. “After coming to the program with me for several months, my daughter Iris now avoids unhealthy foods and makes healthy choices with me. This has benefitted my family.”
