How did this book ENGAGE you?
The title alone had me interested; as so many (myself included) struggle with being who we are and who think we should be or are expected to be; Brene’ gives this down to earth feel right from the start of her book. To me this is a book you like to read in segments; stop to process and think about and apply the ideas to your own life and then move forward.
In what ways do you feel more EQUIPPED after reading this book?
I feel more equipped by the way Brene’ explained our natural feelings and emotions and how we try to change or feel bad because of the preconceived notions or unrealistic expectations we put on ourselves. Over and over again she demonstrates and talks about being true to who you really are.
How has this book EMPOWERED you?
I am empowered by all the areas she explained that are important to keeping in touch with your true self; cultivating play, meaningful work, and creativity. One of my most favorite ones, Cultivating Authenticity. Working on all these areas can lead you to living as she says, a “Whole Hearted Life”.
I was inspired by: Her honesty, openness and her natural ability to connect in a personal way. I took away from this book the importance of owning your unique story and being true to yourself. You can build resilience by creating an emotional bank to draw on. Do what makes you come alive.
Short Personal Story:
I am a strong believer in that the universe sends you tools when you are ready or need them. This was a perfect example of this. I was at A Mower Refreshed Meeting and this book was talked about and shown; I was boy that looks familiar; sure enough I went home and it was sitting on my to read some day shelf. I took this as a sign to read it now and that I did. Perfect timing.
