Cindy Peterson, Administrative Assistant, along with other staff at the Grand Meadow Public School decided to think outside the box and take action to ensure that members of the community could have physical fitness options five days a week.
Cindy had an idea early this spring after participating in an exercise band fitness class in a nearby town, that something similar was needed in her community. Cindy reached out the Mower County SHIP coordinator, Crystal Peterson for help. With considerable work behind the scenes and mini-grant funding from SHIP, Grand Meadow School is now offering an exercise bands class to not only their staff but to the entire community, right at the school!
Another plus, the gym and track area have been approved to be utilized by both students and community members, during set hours, for FREE! Cathy Paul is the Community Education Director for Grand Meadow Schools and Cindy’s partner in wellness initiatives. Cathy stated, “Cindy has always had a great interest for health and wellness! She is always coming up with fun ideas and ways to keep people motivated.”
The new exercise band class is being offered throughout the summer. Although Cindy is retiring from her
position at the end of the year, her legacy of being a wellness champion will live on. For more information on this class or others offered by Grand Meadow Community Education please visit their website at http://www.gm.k12.mn.us/page/2520.
