The Baby Café is open every Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Austin Public Library.
Refreshments are provided. This is the third Baby Café to open in the Southeast Minnesota region, with others operating in Cannon Falls and Lake City.
“At least 80 percent of women leaving the hospital setting after childbirth are breastfeeding their infants,” says Candace Hample, Nursing, who is a Board-Certified Lactation Consultant and Café facilitator. “Women in Austin, as well as across the country, face challenges after discharge that make it difficult to meet their breastfeeding goals and the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics for infant feeding.
We are excited to bring to our community the Austin Area Baby Café. It will be a warm and welcoming family-friendly environment for mothers to meet and support each other in their breastfeeding journey and also receive support and assistance from trained lactation consultants and counselors.”
Austin Area Baby Café is open to anyone interested in any aspect of breast-feeding – prenatal women, mothers, partners and supporters with the intention that all mothers will be able to access the information and support they need to breast-feed.
