When you think of Grand Meadow Schools, you may first think of the unique dome shaped buildings out on the prairie. Or you may recall that the school finished a massive building expansion project in December of 2016 which included a new gym, track and classrooms. Staff at Grand Meadow School have been hard at work to make sure they are known for much more than just that. Grand Meadow is a growing, thriving community and they have set out to ensure that their population’s health is thriving, as well.
Austin is a community blessed with an innovative spirit and commitment to education. In the summer of 2014 Austin Aspires was created to bring to life the work of the Education Leaders committee from Vision 2020.
Our vision is that “Austin will be recognized as a leader in education, with a culture of educational excellence, cradle to career, embraced in every aspect of our community.”
Austin Aspires provides the backbone support for our community in using the collective impact model to seek improved educational outcomes in Austin. Collective Impact is defined as “the commitment of a group of actors from different sectors to a common agenda for solving a specific social problem, using a structured form of collaboration.” Austin Aspires is proud to be collaborating with Mower Refreshed.
An outdoor yoga class, people biking, families walking together, folks carrying water bottles with them, fresh fruit or veggies at a work meeting, intentional kindness to people who pass us in the grocery store or a parking lot…these are examples of creating positive community norms. They give us a picture, examples of what is valued and how people behave in a community (town/workplace/ family) …what the norm is…how we do life and work…how we do relationships. It has the power to influence how healthy a community is.
